Dear Threshhold Climbing
We pay $35+ a Month for Membership
Install a Freak'n Water Fountain
This Riverside Climbing Gym has no water fountain...
Threshhold owners, we asked you for over a year. We, the climbers of threshhold want a drinking fountain. Every other gym in Riverside provides a drinking fountain. You on the other hand charge us for bottles of water. Sure we can bring our own water, but honestly, its pretty lame that you don't provide a refill option.
We asked for over a year
Threshhold Water Fountain Summary
Threshhold is an indoor climbing gym located in Riverside California. For 35+ dollars a month members are able to bolder and top rope 7 days a week. As many climbers have found, heavy climbing leaves one thirsty. Ah, here we find the problem. For a simple 2 dollars climbers are able to purchase water at the front desk.
Wait, a gym that charges for water? What about the water fountain? We pay to work out, the least you can do is install a freak'n water fountain. Is your business model so dependent on plastic water bottle sales that you don't provide water at the expense of your climbers and poluting the environment?
Reasons to install a water fountain.
Here are a few of the reasons that we believe you need to provide a drinking fountain for your members.
You are a gym
As a gym your promote health. Members come to you to sweat and burn calories. Staying hydrated during a workout is considered the most important part of staying fit.
Every other gym provides water, and this makes sense. If your goal is to help people be healthy and stay fit, then you shouldn't nickle and dime us for water which we NEED.
Water is Cheap
Water is one of the cheapest resources we use. A drinking fountain uses very little water and energy to filter basic water into refreshing drinking water. The cost of installing and running a drinking fountain is just the cost of doing business. Deal with it.
Plastic bottles polute the environment
Your a climbing gym right? Climbers are some of the most environmentally concious people in the world. We want to drink water out of the tap. We don't want to drink out of plastic that will be around for 500 years!
Environmental Impact of Threshholds Greed
Here are a few articles on various websites that back up our claim about environmental impact.
- Treehugger.com discusses the impact of bottled water
- MSNBC discusses the low rate of recycling of water bottles
- USA Today explains the problem is the resources used for plastic water bottles
- Another Treehugger article - up-to-date cost of water bottle production cost
Here are some scary quotes
Plastic water bottles produced for U.S. consumption take 1.5 million barrels of oil per year USA Today
Since the fossil fuels end up being accounted for in the GHG emissions I'll ignore those values for now. The total amount of water used to produce and deliver one bottle of imported water is 6.74kg (5kg + 20g + 1kg + 720g)! And the amount of GHGs released amount to 250g (93g + 4.3g + 153g), or 0.25kg, or 0.00025 tons. Treehugger
